The House That Ash Built / The House That Ash Built Facebook

The House That Ash Built returns July 26, 2025, for its fifth year, transforming the garden of Millers Pond Pub in Sholing into a pulsating hub of house music. This vibrant festival honors Ashleen Bateman, a passionate local house music enthusiast who passed away in 2021 at age 34 under the care of Mountbatten Hampshire. Before her passing, Ashleen fulfilled her dream of DJing at the inaugural event, a legacy now carried forward by her husband, Dan Bateman, and close friend Gareth ‘Chunk’ Nichols. The festival has become a cornerstone for the community, raising an impressive £28,000 over four years for the hospice, with last year’s event alone pulling in nearly £6,000 and drawing 400 attendees.

This year’s lineup delivers a dynamic range of house music vibes, featuring returning heavyweights Olly Camplin, Jamie Ryves, and DJ RK, whose sets promise to keep the dancefloor moving with deep basslines and infectious rhythms. Newcomers Jodie Topp and saxophonist Charlotte Hayes inject fresh energy, blending soulful melodies with high-octane beats. The event’s atmosphere is amplified by glitter face painting and flashing sunflowers, creating a festive, immersive experience that celebrates Ashleen’s love for the genre while supporting a vital cause.

“Help us make 2025’s the best one yet,” urges Dan Bateman, as the festival continues to grow in scope and impact. Running from 2 PM to 11:30 PM, The House That Ash Built 2025 channels all proceeds to Mountbatten Hampshire, a hospice reliant on community efforts like this to fund its £10.5 million annual budget for 24/7 end-of-life care.

KEINEMUSIK’S REZNIK REUNITES WITH MIKESH ON ‘ONE AND ONLY’ https://house-music.co/2025/04/10/keinemusiks-reznik-reunites-with-mikesh-on-one-and-only/ Thu, 10 Apr 2025 09:31:19 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=2173

Having combined on multiple releases since 2020, ‘One And Only‘ opens up yet another chapter in Reznik & Mikesh’s collaborative efforts on Keinemusik. And what a nicely written chapter it is. The boys are laying down what might be their most heartfelt material to date, with an original version that is drafted in rather classical song structure – a yearning piece graced with string and piano arrangements, and most notably: Mikesh’s vocals. The club mix on the other hand picks on the original’s vibes and translates them into a more functional, but still deeply fervent peaktime weapon. Both tunes have been road tested by the Keinemusik crew over the last months and generated some serious collective emotional release and ID requests alike. Reznik had this to say on it:

“‘One and Only (Original)‘ is a very emotive piece that we realised would rather go into song than track-territory, but we figured there’s quite a few elements in it that would work well in a more club oriented production, so we started to shape it into a club edit. We failed miserably to incorporate Mikesh’s vocals, which is a real bummer, as they are so beautiful. And generally speaking we derailed a bit on this, so there’s actually not too many similarities between both cuts anymore. But we haven’t given up yet on doing a club version containing the original’s vocals. So maybe that’s the dub for now. We had a bit of a Lil’ Louis French Kiss moment when recording the bass line for the club mix.”

It was in 2009, a couple of years after relocating to Berlin, when Reznik teamed up with Adam Port, &ME, Rampa and former members David Mayer and Monja Gentschow and the whole Keinemusik story unfolded. Having released music with Mikesh via Keinemusik, Permanent Vacation, Razor-N-Tape or 2MR, he’s also been on remix duty for the likes of Moby, Tiga & Hudson Mohawke, Beacon or Whitesquare his DJ sets draw on groove and emotions, balancing captivating flow with an element of surprise. You can catch him playing at the below dates:

Deep house musician Black Coffee announces  Hï Ibiza residency https://house-music.co/2022/03/15/deep-house-musician-black-coffee-announces-hi-ibiza-residency/ Tue, 15 Mar 2022 15:05:28 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=1650

This summer, GRAMMY-nominated superstar Black Coffee returns to Hï Ibiza to continue one of the island’s most forward-thinking residences. The South African pioneer will headline the famous Hï Ibiza Theatre every Saturday from 14th May to 1st October.

Black Coffee’s weekly party at Hï Ibiza is one of the most iconic residencies on the White Isle, known for its cutting-edge soundtrack as well as its mix of underground, pioneering and influential guests. With another groundbreaking season planned for 2022, the Hï Ibiza Theatre will be filled with spiritual energy and plenty of African house heat. Immersive visuals and stunning decor will make for an escapist atmosphere with evocative house sounds and a crowd that is always willing to go wherever Black Coffee wants to take them

Black Coffee continues to dominate the global dance music landscape. His remarkable journey has taken him to the biggest stages in the world, including sold-out tours and collaborations with megastars such as David Guetta, Pharrell Williams and Drake. In 2021, his seventh studio album, Subconsciously, dropped and later was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album. As anyone who has experienced them will know, his electric sets of Afropolitan house never sound better than in the vast Theatre of Hï Ibiza, which has been the scene of some truly unforgettable parties since he first took up his role as a headline resident back in 2017 when the club first opened its doors.

Says Black Coffee, “Summer is always a special time of year because my residency at Hï Ibiza really allows me to explore every aspect of my sound. It is going to be amazing to get back to the island and play music at a venue so close to my heart, with a crowd who really let me go really deep into the music I love. The countdown is on!”

As ever, with Black Coffee’s razor-sharp eye for talent at the helm, expect another year of flawlessly put-together line-ups featuring underground acts and internationally renowned Ibiza regulars. Forever moving forward and keeping things fresh, Black Coffee at Hï Ibiza is the only place to be on the island on Saturday nights. The Hydra Announces Bank Holiday Line Up for 23, 24, 25 August, 2019 https://house-music.co/2019/06/12/the-hydra-announces-bank-holdiday-line-up-23-24-25-august/ Wed, 12 Jun 2019 08:33:00 +0000 http://housemusic.ground.fm/2019/06/12/the-hydra-announces-bank-holdiday-line-up-23-24-25-august/ In 2012 The Hydra series was launched, an idea that was was born after Ajay and Dolan first met and collaborated together on an event on the August Bank Holiday weekend in 2011. Having both grown up through early 90s rave, and cut their industry teeth across roles at renowned independent nightclubs and major record labels, they started on this new project together to cover the full spectrum of electronic music.

The first series ran from the August Bank Holiday Weekend, though to NYE, and featured a diversity of acts from James Murphy and James Blake, through to Marcel Dettmann and Kode9. After a brief hiatus from this flagship weekend, we’re very excited to reveal our return.

As we are also making a return to our new home, we wanted to find a few fresh ways to present things, including our first event in the incredible Printworks Live Hall, as well as our first later (2 am) finish there. Over three days we have curated a weekend of events that represent some of our key musical facets, so a beautifully mixed bag, but an opportunity to showcase some of the artists we truly love.

Honouring London’s diversity through the universal language of music, we present a collection of exceptional talent for the capital’s electronic music community. A unique opportunity to enjoy this one-off collection of venerated talents, under a single roof, over a long Summer weekend. Unmissable.

Early Bird and Standard Tickets for all three events will be available on Resident Advisor at 11 am this Thursday (13th June)

23RD AUGUST / 24TH AUGUST / 25TH AUGUST

23RD AUGUST 2019 – BUY TICKETS

One of our favourite events of the second Hydra series in 2013, was the debut label showcase for Erased Tapes, headlined by an immensely talented and-soon-to-be-massive German composer by the name of Nils Frahm. For us it certainly felt like a moment, where the worlds of Classical and Electronic music began to collide and open up a portal for all manner of amazing artists and records to emerge. The intimate confines of Village Underground have long ceased to contain his popularity, but our anticipation around Nils playing The Hydra is vast.

In support, something rather special. Ambient music is as important to us any as any of the other myriad music we cherish and support. So we feel particularly honoured to have been able to commission a one-off 25th-anniversary performance of ’76:14′ by Global Communication. A mainstay of Top Tens dedicated to this music, it is a foundational record and we couldn’t be happier about rounding off this unique bill with Mr Tom Middleton (one half of Global Communication, alongside Mark Pritchard) having agreed to put together a full, bespoke performance of this seminal record.

24TH AUGUST 2019 – BUY TICKETS

The Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend is one of the biggest dates of the year in our world. So for this return, it felt only right to enlist one of our scene leaders. Jeff Mills’ debut at Printworks was a Techno masterclass, so expect more of the same. He is joined this time by his compatriot from the Motor City, Juan Atkins, in a rare Model 500 performance and venue debut. Electro deity Helena Hauff also hits the Press Halls, with Ben Klock side-stepping his Photon residency at the space to appear here too. Another venue (and UK) debut sees Detroit’s Terrence Dixon make a much-awaited Live debut on these shores whilst LA’s Mor Elian gets us started.

Dark Room welcomes Workshop affiliates Willow and Move D. David Moufang has been with us from the beginning and continues to represent so much that we love about electronic music. We’re also pleased to have Hydra debutant Damiano Von Erckert bring his Hip Hop-channeling House sensibility to the second space. NTS’ DEBONAIR gets us started here.

Day into late night on this one, as we roadtest a 2 am finish for the first time…

25TH AUGUST 2019 – BUY TICKETS

Sundays may well be the choice day of any bank holiday. Offering the opportunity to get stuck in afresh, to pick up where you previously left off or perhaps best of all, to unexpectedly find yourself in the dance, completely unplanned and ready for anything. And for any of those potential outcomes, we have perhaps the most apposite line-up of the weekend, reserved for the day of rest.

We welcome House music leviathan, Larry Heard for what will be his only London show of 2019. A man responsible for much of what we do, in so many ways. Accompanying Mr Fingers on our Sunday session is a triumvirate of second-generation superstars straight outta the D: Carl Craig, Moodymann and Theo Parrish. If you ever wanted an insight into what has inspired us on this journey, the craft and artistry of these titans will give you an idea. All three were represented across the Movement weekend in Detroit recently; the role that this special city has played cannot be underestimated, so it was a joy to behold them all on home turf… And from East Coast to West, this party also features a Live excursion from Stones Throw’s low-slung songsmith DaM FunK.

In the second space on this one, Belgian’s intrepid wax hunter Lefto teams up with Brownswood alumnus Joe Armon-Jones for a trip into the unknown, and there is more Live action from L.A. with Afrofuturist Ras G, plus support from Ash Lauryn and Sofie.
