Fresh off the weekend, DJ Hydra unleashed his debut Moyo Wa Upendo EP on June 6, 2025, via OVAVA Music, marking the label’s eighth release. The rising Afro House talent has been building serious buzz, especially with his upcoming single Bamidele set to drop later this month on his own imprint, Suru Records. Inspired by heavyweights like Keinemusik and Black Coffee, DJ Hydra has honed a sound that resonates from intimate club nights to massive festival stages. This two-track EP solidifies his place as a bold new voice in Afro House, blending cultural depth with dancefloor-ready energy.

The EP’s title track, Moyo Wa Upendo, is a heartfelt journey, weaving Swahili vocals with pulsating Afrocentric rhythms and warm electronic layers. Translating to “heart of love,” it’s a nod to heritage, balancing traditional roots with forward-thinking production. The B-side, ‘Like House’, cranks up the tempo with infectious percussion and raw, dancefloor-driven spirit. Both tracks showcase DJ Hydra’s knack for storytelling through sound, merging introspective vibes with high-energy grooves that feel authentic and fresh.

Backed by OVAVA Music and its visionary head Ollie Mundy, this release is another win for the label, which has earned praise from outlets like Mixmag and DJ Mag. With Mundy’s residency at Pikes ‘Back To Mine’ in Ibiza and a slew of upcoming projects, the label’s momentum is undeniable. Moyo Wa Upendo EP is out now on Beatport and all major streaming platforms, cementing DJ Hydra as a name to watch in the global Afro House scene.

Hailing from Grenoble, France, this self-taught producer has amassed over 4.5 million streams, with releases on revered labels like Purified, Colorize, and Kontor. His emotive, piano-laced soundscapes have earned nods from heavyweights such as Martin Garrix, Nora En Pure, and Solomun, while his tracks dominate Spotify’s editorial playlists like Chill Tracks, Electronic Rising, and Summer House 2025. With a Beatport Top 100 Progressive House ranking and a spot in Deezer’s Top 100 in Indonesia, Thaylo’s artistry, inspired by visionaries like M83 and Ludovico Einaudi, continues to captivate global audiences.

‘Let Me Be’ captivates with its seamless blend of airy atmospheres and a vibrant, soulful groove. Thaylo crafts a soundscape of shimmering synth layers, a taut, rolling bassline, and precise, kinetic percussion that propels the track forward. His signature piano flourishes, tender and evocative, intertwine with the raw, yearning vocal hook, “Just let me be,” forging a mood that’s both introspective and cathartic. The single strikes a delicate balance—contemplative yet buoyant—making it an ideal companion for solitary night drives or euphoric festival moments under fading light. ‘Let Me Be‘ was the result of stepping out of my comfort zone, mixing electronic and organic sounds but letting the piano guide me, and realizing that even my voice could become an instrument of unexpected depth and emotion,” Thaylo revealed. This bold exploration shows his growth as an artist unafraid to push boundaries, setting the stage for what’s sure to be a monumental year ahead.

Elevate Your Playlist with Exstra & Frýnn’s ‘Round & Round’: Pure Dancefloor Fire https://house-music.co/2025/05/02/elevate-your-playlist-with-exstra-frynns-round-round-pure-dancefloor-fire/ Fri, 02 May 2025 10:11:11 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=2180

Exstra / Image credit: Christian Vaughn

Today, Exstra unleashes ‘Round & Round’ featuring the spellbinding Frýnn on Enormous Chills, a track poised to ripple through the melodic house scene. Steven Landis, the New Yorker behind Exstra, has carved a name with 1.8 million streams, releasing on elite labels like Colorize, Zerothree, and Enormous Tunes. His 2024 singles ‘All I’ll Ever Know’ and ‘Frozen’ lit up Nora En Pure’s Purified Radio and AVIRA’s Sirius XM show, earning nods from Magnetic Magazine and EDM Identity. From singing in the Vatican as a teen to DJing at We Belong Here festivals with Kaskade and Monolink, and opening for Martin Roth, Exstra’s journey—ignited by Avicii and shaped by CamelPhat and Nora En Pure—is one of relentless evolution.

‘Round & Round’ weaves a hypnotic spell, kicking off with a pulsing four-on-the-floor and a delicate hang drum that threads through the track like a heartbeat. As rich bass and atmospheric pads swell, Frýnn’s radiant, anthemic vocals soar, guiding the song through dynamic peaks to a blissful, lingering fade. It’s a dancefloor magnet, resonating with fans of Tinlicker or Eli & Fur.

“’Round & Round’ started as a remix of a friend’s song, but it took on a life of its own, evolving into something completely original,” Exstra shared. “I was feeling inspired by the darker side of melodic club music and I wanted to create a melody that first appeared as a subtle tease—played delicately on a hang drum—before transforming into something more intense with an aggressive synth lead. After I completed the instrumental, I felt like a warm, beautiful vocal would be the perfect complement. Needless to say, Frýnn‘s stunning voice brought everything together effortlessly!”

KEINEMUSIK’S REZNIK REUNITES WITH MIKESH ON ‘ONE AND ONLY’ https://house-music.co/2025/04/10/keinemusiks-reznik-reunites-with-mikesh-on-one-and-only/ Thu, 10 Apr 2025 09:31:19 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=2173

Having combined on multiple releases since 2020, ‘One And Only‘ opens up yet another chapter in Reznik & Mikesh’s collaborative efforts on Keinemusik. And what a nicely written chapter it is. The boys are laying down what might be their most heartfelt material to date, with an original version that is drafted in rather classical song structure – a yearning piece graced with string and piano arrangements, and most notably: Mikesh’s vocals. The club mix on the other hand picks on the original’s vibes and translates them into a more functional, but still deeply fervent peaktime weapon. Both tunes have been road tested by the Keinemusik crew over the last months and generated some serious collective emotional release and ID requests alike. Reznik had this to say on it:

“‘One and Only (Original)‘ is a very emotive piece that we realised would rather go into song than track-territory, but we figured there’s quite a few elements in it that would work well in a more club oriented production, so we started to shape it into a club edit. We failed miserably to incorporate Mikesh’s vocals, which is a real bummer, as they are so beautiful. And generally speaking we derailed a bit on this, so there’s actually not too many similarities between both cuts anymore. But we haven’t given up yet on doing a club version containing the original’s vocals. So maybe that’s the dub for now. We had a bit of a Lil’ Louis French Kiss moment when recording the bass line for the club mix.”

It was in 2009, a couple of years after relocating to Berlin, when Reznik teamed up with Adam Port, &ME, Rampa and former members David Mayer and Monja Gentschow and the whole Keinemusik story unfolded. Having released music with Mikesh via Keinemusik, Permanent Vacation, Razor-N-Tape or 2MR, he’s also been on remix duty for the likes of Moby, Tiga & Hudson Mohawke, Beacon or Whitesquare his DJ sets draw on groove and emotions, balancing captivating flow with an element of surprise. CRISTOPH ALLUDES TO DEBUT ALBUM WITH RHYTHMIC HOUSE NUMBER ‘STRING THING’ https://house-music.co/2025/03/18/cristoph-alludes-to-debut-album-with-rhythmic-house-number-string-thing/ Tue, 18 Mar 2025 10:38:58 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=2166 Finessed and finely tuned in production, yet rich in rhythm and soul, DJ and producer Cristoph ignites an exchange of house music sensibilities on the dancefloor on new single ‘String Thing.’

A leading figure in melodic house, Cristoph drops his first release of 2025 on his Consequence of Society Recordings and alludes to a conceptual album project focused on the musical journey and experience of his open-to-close sets, due to follow later this year.

Cruising in on a seductive groove, ‘String Thing’ is headed straight for the club room. Native to the North of England, Cristoph has masterfully built a career worthy of worldwide appeal. Cristoph’s desire to evoke emotion transcends onto the loyal crowds who come to him behind the decks. of a dim-lit underground DJ booth, up to global gatherings of an elite scale such as Tomorrowland, Arc Festival and ULTRA Music Festival.

In the studio, he awards his time to honing a meticulous production style, apparent on renowned catalogue releases ‘FEEL’, ‘EPOCH’ and ‘Breathe’ output of the last twelve months highlights of which include ‘Where’s The Music Gone’ with Pete Tong.

Ever one to pilot his own narrative, Cristoph’s life-long ambition to launch his own imprint culminated in Consequence of Society Recordings which serves to do exactly that. Boston Bun unveils sublime second album MIXED FEELINGS https://house-music.co/2024/10/30/boston-bun-unveils-sublime-second-album-mixed-feelings/ Wed, 30 Oct 2024 13:30:19 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=2123
MIXED FEELINGS LP artwork

French producer Boston Bun has returned with some of his best work to date with his album MIXED FEELINGS released on 25 October via the Future Classic imprint.

MIXED FEELINGS is Boston Bun’s second album, and features 11 masterfully crafted house infused tracks. 2024 has been a year of profound polarity for Boston Bun as he’s experienced insurmountable joy due to the birth of his child, but he’s also experienced emotional turbulence due to family tragedies. So, for Boston Bun, the album is a culmination of gratitude and celebration as well as grief and turmoil.

Speaking on the album, Boston Bun divulges; “(It’s) a reflection on the ephemerality of our societies. Art, objects, human skills, or relationships – everything is more ephemeral than ever. It makes us feel replaceable. I started to think of all of my productions as emotional postcards that I sent to the future. I imagined a random kid somewhere in the world finding out about these tracks in 100 years, listening to a weird pirate radio. From then, inspiration was unlimited.

Stream Boston Bun MIXED FEELINGS below:

The paradox of the album also extends to the state of the world in 2024, with wars raging, governments, systems and regimes crumbling and natural disasters taking place now more than ever. It’s also a reflection of how fleeting our attention spans are as a society, and how on one side of the world people are living in bliss while on the other end people are experiencing the most heinous forms of suffering and injustice. Boston Bun sheds light on this; “MIXED FEELINGS is the best way to describe how it feels to be alive in 2024 – a lot of contradictory emotions; a lot of nonsense. You can be at a party, look at your phone, see a city being bombed live somewhere, a flooding killing thousands somewhere else, and put your phone back in your pocket and keep dancing.”

The album’s opening track ‘NOBODY // ME’ has been selected as part of the FC (FKA FIFA) 2025 soundtrack, alongside world-renowned artists Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Glass Animals, Fred again.., and Disclosure. The album is a triumphant feat for Boston Bun, and the themes and messages behind it will undoubtedly resonate with a vast audience. Boston Bun is ushering in a new era in his career and it’s bound to break new grounds.

MIXED FEELINGS Tracklist:

Tobias Bergson is back with another spectacular hit in the form of ‘One Day’, an Afro house influenced track released on 25 October via PLAYY. Records. Known for his artistic dexterity, Tobias is a force within the electronic music industry, and has amassed over 180 million streams across various streaming platforms, as well as support from the likes of Don Diablo and Lost Frequencies. The Austrian has also released on major labels such as Armada and Universal Austria

‘One Day’ sees Tobias boldly take a new direction from his previously released progressive house single ‘Clear Your Mind’ to an Afro-Garage-House influenced offering. The track has already garnered support from the likes of House Music With Love as well as radio play on CBC Music’s Afterdark Show, and it has been added to the Spotify playlist Electronic Rising

The single is beautifully evocative, and stirs up a heartwarming and comforting ambience. ‘One Day’ features soothing African vocals, dripping over a tantalising Afro house laced beat, along with serene synths culminating into an offering with magnetic energy and deeply resonant warmth. Tobias has managed to outdo himself with this single as it ushers in a new era for his career.

Tobias Bergson told us: “I think ‘One Day’ is a healthy mix of Afro House and a UK Garage beat. I’ve been producing Afro House on and off for over 2 years now, but so far it hasn’t been of interest to the labels… I know ‘One Day’ isn’t really an Afro House track as one would typically know it, but that was exactly what made it interesting—to produce a song with Afro House vocals but without the usual Afro House beat.”
