EJ3000 is a new duo who recently released their first original record titled ‘I CAN’T STOP DANCING’. Although they have spent little time releasing under the new moniker, both artists are experienced musicians, but they are protecting their identities, choosing instead to let the music and their masks establish their newly-founded brand of flaming house tunes. With the new release, we go to know the duo. World meet EJ300:

Stream / Download: EJ3000 – ‘I CAN’T STOP DANCING

For people who “can’t stop dancing”, what is the cure?

Fortunately, there is no cure and that’s the beauty… Dancing is life and we must never stop!

What sparked the idea for the new record?

It was a dark clubby night on December 15th 2022. E1500 sent a voice message to J1500 saying “I CANT STOP DANCING” .. J1500 immediately built a beat around that and the rest is history!

At what point in your life did you have that moment where you said to yourself “This is it. This is the type of music I want to create?”

In November 2022, E1500 sent a voice memo to J1500 that said “I can’t stop dancing” … J1500 built a beat around it, and the rest is history.

Please list some of the most influential albums on your creative outlook and output:

‘Channel Tres’ by Channel Tres, ‘Loose’ by Nelly Furtado, ‘EP2’ by Yaeji.

What key pieces of gear/software are you using to define your sound?

SM7B, SH101, JUNO 60, Prophet 5.

What inspires you outside of music? What do you turn to when the creative well runs a little low?

We’ll usually go clubbing to resurrect the spirits of dance; it always works a treat.

What is your opinion on the ever-spreading sub-genre vine? Are there too many? Do you think there’s perhaps a sub-genre that doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

We’re not familiar with vine? But there are no rules; that’s part of the beauty of this all. Hard to say regarding sub-genre attention… there are, for example, electronic music scenes that seem to appreciate a lack of attention, like a secret garden only some hold the key to, which is super cool and cute.

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?

They’re so different. A perfect balance would be ideal for us.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar? Who shouldn’t the world sleep on?

Park Hye Jin, Brijean, Filipe Gordon.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

We’re brand new, but we have a lot of music coming out this year. Eyes peeled, stay tuned.

One last thought to leave your fans with?

You can’t stop dancing!

Musicians Moses Belanger & Thaïs Sala unleash latest EP Evasion https://house-music.co/2023/01/23/musicians-moses-belangerthais-sala-unleash-latest-ep-evasion/ Mon, 23 Jan 2023 09:27:22 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=1829 Image credit: Moses Belanger

Evasion EP: Concept

The past years have pushed us to seek and value blissful moments of escapism more than most of us ever have in our lifetimes. We’ve all relied on feeding art into our minds as a means of evading the weight of isolation and frustration in our stalled lives. This EP is a sonic vessel meant to carry us to the distant spaces we drift to when we need a break from it all. Every song represents its own form of escapism or refuge, steering the listeners, our passengers, from gambling games to Matrix-inspired double dimensions, from sea folklore to religious legend. Some are forms of distraction, others sites of solace in a most trying time. The instrumentals evoke the carefree sense of cruising down a coastline, decadent sunsets, and the timeless allure of discovering new places and faces.

Another place of refuge has been the internet, which happens to be where we met. Moses shared the snippet of an instrumental on his Instagram stories, calling out for vocalists. Thaïs was immediately inspired by the track’s mysterious melody and bewitching beat. The top line and lyrics flowed out instantly, and before long she’d sent back the track which would go on to be the first song on the EP.

We’ve spent the past months cooking up our own home remedy for the symptoms of our era because making music is how we self-medicate. These songs are the silver lining to a crushing situation, global confinement birthing a stillness without which this collaboration may never have come to be.

Every night of lockdown Thaïs has little solo raves on her balcony, elevated by the music, in withdrawal from the energy of dancing in a room full of vibing strangers. And so we set out to create the very vibe we’ve been searching for, the vibe we’ve been needing. Thaïs sitting by her bedroom window in Marrakech, armed with a microphone and her lyric book, Moses in his Montreal home studio, surrounded by synths. Thousands of miles apart, in different time zones, but on the same wavelength. It takes a rare creative synergy for two people who’ve never met to work in such organic consonance, and the two artists have jumped head first into this project, Moses seamlessly weaving Thaïs’ raspy soul vocals into his rousing synths and hypnotic beats.

Artist Quote – “Created between Montreal and Marrakech, Évasion pairs Moses Belanger’s jazz-infused synths and rolling bass lines with Thaïs Sala’s escapist lyrics, delivered with deep soul vocals.”

Record Sounds Like: Basslines like Channel Tres, dreamy synths like Kerri Chandler, mystical strings like Nicolas Jaar, percussions and raspy vocals evocative of Sinego

2 – La Salacia

4 – High Road

House music artist Moon Boots offers new song ‘Ride Away’ https://house-music.co/2023/01/20/house-music-artist-moon-boots-offers-new-song-ride-away/ Fri, 20 Jan 2023 09:28:15 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=1819 Image credit: Nate Margolis

Friday, January 13th — Moon Boots (Pete Dogherty) hits the ground running in 2023 with ‘Ride Away’, another funk-laden gem from his forthcoming album of the same name. The titular single lands on January 13 via independent label Anjunadeep alongside the exciting announcement of a brand new live tour in 2023.

The single features multifaceted songwriter, producer, and vocalist Steven Klavier. A longtime collaborator, Klavier paired up with Moon Boots on the 2019 single “Tied Up”, and 2022’s “Come Back Around” with Cherry Glazerr. On ‘”Ride Away”, the pair present a bouncy slice of synth-pop with cosmic flair themed around an enticing journey of escapism; “Let’s take a trip / Forget what we’re used to / No hesitating / I’ll ride away with you. The world is changing / We’re gonna make it through / Full speed baby / I’ll ride away with you.”

Beaming about the release of the fourth album single, Pete says “many people know Steven as a booker, promoter and all-around key figure in the NYC nightlife world — particularly in the Queer / LGBT scene — but he’s also a gifted songwriter, an incredible singer and always a joy to be around. I also just love the message of this song. We were totally on the same page to make something that felt affirming and uplifting but still adventurous.”

“Ride Away” follows last year’s singles “Take Me To Your Body” with Nic Hanson, “Hot Minute” with Black Gatsby, and “Come Back Around” with indie darling Cherry Glazerr. Effervescent and funky in true Moon Boots style, the singles have seen extensive support with “Come Back Around” named ‘Coldest Record’ on BBC Radio 1, and pick up from KEXP, Triple J, SiriusXM, Billboard Dance, Brooklyn Vegan, Magnetic Mag, and This Song Is Sick, to name a few.

The album Ride Away follows in the footsteps of Moon Boots’s debut First Landing (2017) and sophomore album Bimini Road (2019). With an impressive catalogue atypical of the dance world, Dougherty’s third album represents both his tenacity and evolution as a producer and songwriter. The writing process was met with many difficult but rewarding experiences; creative bursts were balanced with instances of anxiety and self-doubt, yet Dougherty found the music writing process invigorating and cites his wife’s continual support and incoming firstborn daughter as encouraging him to move forward. Of course, more time in the studio allowed Dougherty to experiment with new creative processes (and mind-altering methods) over the course of the album’s formation:

“Creating my new album Ride Away helped keep me going through unsteady times and joyous times. This album is about love and connection and being there for each other. My intention is for people to feel free when they hear this album, to get recharged, to be stimulated by something they’ve never heard before.”

Featuring a swathe of colourful vocalists including the likes of Cherry Glazerr, Dope Earth Alien, and Nic Hanson, Ride Away celebrates Dougherty’s longstanding affinity for collaboration, fun effervescent songwriting, and dance-focused production. Other international artists on the album include French singer Praa and Norwegian band Ora The Molecule, whilst longtime collaborators Ross Clark (St. Lucia) and Steven Klavier feature as writers and instrumentalists on the record, rounding out a global ensemble of incredible talent.

Having accrued well over 100 million streams on Spotify alone, and having been championed by the likes of Annie Mac, Diplo, Danny Howard, and The Blessed Madonna, Moon Boots has established himself as a trailblazer of R&B-infused dance music. Having released on legendary French house label French Express, and remixed the likes of Dua Lipa, Robyn, and Nile Rodgers, Dougherty’s production prowess is in high demand, whilst his eclectic DJ sets and live shows (including a full live band) have seen him tour the world, with recent headline shows sold out across North America, London, and Australia.

A slow-burning and sultry affair, ‘Propaganda’ patiently develops with Oliver Osborne’s stripped-back drum work at the centre. A soulful vocal and fluttering synth take turns rearing their head while the unrushed bassline marches on, making the track well-placed to ease in crowds into the night.

Supported by the likes of &ME, Rampa, Be Svendsen, Stefano Ritteri, and Culoe De Song, Oliver Osborne has established himself as a producer of note. Now based in Toronto, Oliver cut his teeth in London, where he played at notable clubs such as Fabric, Corsica Studios and 93feet East. Prior to this, a nearly 10-year period in South East Asia saw him establish a robust gig schedule around the region alongside a string of releases on labels like Cacao Records, Souta Musik and his own Eyes To The Front.

Leipzig-based, German musician MARIA Die RUHE shares her latest release ‘Dance or We Are Lost (Semodi Remix)’ under Reduced To The Root Records.  Musician MARIA boasts past recognition by distinguished publications such as CLASH Magazine and Notion Magazine just to name a few.

Stream / Download: ‘DANCE OR WE ARE LOST (Semodi Remix)’

‘Dance or We Are Lost (Semodi Remix)’ captures well the essence of experimental house music with its euphoric crispy hit-hats, deep bass, and sinuous synths. The song starts with a pulsating synth that is subsequently laid throughout the track and is accentuated by a bubbling deep bass, making the song appear to literally be in motion. The crispy hit-hats add an element of urgent joviality, resulting in a potent dance anthem.

Entertainer and electronic DJ Semodi released his first EP ‘Next Summer’ via Thisbe Recordings in 2021. The musician discusses the intended creative vision for the remix: “The original mix of DOWAL already has super nice vocals and very relatable lyrics, so I felt I had to add a kick-ass bass line to really make you want to dance. Also, I wanted to give the vocals a musical context that really embraces the message of the track in the final drop. So I created some epic synth pads that made me feel this yearning for salvation in dancing”.

Musician Salvatore Ganacci shares new single ‘Take Me To America’ https://house-music.co/2022/11/18/musician-salvatore-ganacci-shares-new-single-take-me-to-america/ Fri, 18 Nov 2022 14:05:05 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=1779 Image credit: Daniela Spiroska

Enigmatic artist Salvatore Ganacci has unveiled plans for a brand-new album, Culturally Appropriate, and dropped a new single ‘Take Me To America’, out 27th October on MDLBEAST Records. Ganacci’s darkly funny storytelling unfolds in a surrealist tale that holds personal significance to Ganacci, who hails from Bosnia.

Watch the video HERE

A pumping, four-to-the-floor house jam, ‘Take Me To America’ samples iconic Bosnian band Dubioza Kolektiv’s hit single “U.S.A.”, celebrating Ganacci’s Bosnian immigrant heritage. The Sweden-based producer combines punchy drums, infectious vocals and groove-laden brass in the single, which he has teased to audiences during sets at MDLBEAST’s Soundstorm Festival and Romania’s SAGA Festival. It follows recent single ‘Let You Do This’, a collaboration with Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia notoriety, with both tracks set to feature on Ganacci’s forthcoming album Culturally Appropriate, out on 25th November via MDLBEAST Records.

Salvatore Ganacci has, in recent years, become a fictive cult legend, particularly in his seminal videos, transcending beyond a traditional electronic artist. With a unique visual language and stage presence, Ganacci has built his own universe through videos and records, such as ‘Horse’ and ‘Step-Grandma’. More recently Ganacci collaborated with Ingrosso on their joint remix of The Weeknd’s 2022  track ‘How Do I Make You Love Me’.

Ganacci’s second scintillating single in quick succession, ‘Take Me To America’ further heightens the anticipation for the Swede’s forthcoming album.

On ‘Dummy Corporation’ we see Actress – one of the preeminent and most singular voices in UK electronic music – enter a new chapter, traversing through digital snapshots of electronica and graffiti in which he explores the processes behind both the music and visual elements. “The overall idea is for this to be a demonstration of the process and the philosophical action art of creating modern-day electronic music” he comments. “I create these sketches, essentially like the fabrics, and I collage them together…once I see the picture it’s embellished further and the process repeats…”. It’s a piece of work shaped by varied fragments of Actress’ life, reflecting growing up in the advent of home computing, programming, cassette tapes and floppy discs.

Grammy-nominated artist Mild Minds has unveiled a full 5-track EP, tying a common thread between new music from 2022 and previously released singles.  Released via ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective on September 21st, 2022, the IT WON’T DO EP signifies the end of one chapter for Mild Minds as he prepares for a new era of music in the time ahead.

The latest track and namesake of the EP “IT WON’T DO” is an upbeat, fervent track that injects a dose of energy into Mild Mind’s diverse sound palette that can span the spectrum of downtempo, ambient, electronica, and melancholy electronic. The uplifting new addition to his catalogue is peppered with high-energy arpeggios and dancefloor-ready percussion.

Second on the EP, “DEVOTION” incorporates organic instrumentals across a bright, brooding atmospheric undertone, dynamic synth work is the foundation of the expertly harmonized track.  Boasting shimmering vocal highlights across its duration, “DEVOTION” delivers a reflective, multifaceted exemplification of Mild Minds’ production proficiencies.

Juxtaposing fluttering synth melodies with fleeting vocals, “MACHINE” is an electronic creation brimming with human emotion.  Staying true to the track title, “HAUNTED” is a soul-stirring soundscape that sees Mild Minds tap into his trademark blend of driving synths and captivating vocals. Closing out the 5-track EP, “NO SKIN” is a collaboration with acclaimed British electronic producer Frameworks. The track embodies a spirit of forwarding motion, fusing cinematic synths and simmering drum samples, it layers his striking falsetto over organic production.

The ‘IT WON’T DO’ EP is a capstone of Mild Mind’s works since the release of his 2020 album, MOOD. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Bonobo, Maribou State, Caribou and Four Tet, Mild Minds is the brainchild of Benjamin David. The Grammy-nominated vocalist and producer assemble electronic music agnostic of the genre, striking a delicate balance between dancefloor-ready and downtempo moods. Defining his music as an exploration of the intersection of humanity and technology, his music draws inspiration from human movement, patterns, and artificial intelligence.

David introduced the Mild Minds project with his “SWIM” EP, seeing him swiftly signed to ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective label. He has toured with everyone from Tycho, Bob Moses, and Big Wild, played Red Rocks Amphitheater last year, and a host of other shows including Life Is Beautiful, CRSSD, and Splash House festivals.

Dynamically demonstrating diversity across his signature sound, innovation is an innate aptitude boasted by the Mild Minds project, the ‘IT WON’T DO’ EP sets the stage for a new venture for the burgeoning artist in the time ahead.

Music producer Golden Features shares the inspired song ‘Touch(feat. Rromarin)’ https://house-music.co/2022/07/01/music-producer-golden-features-shares-the-inspired-song-touchfeat-rromarin/ Fri, 01 Jul 2022 13:20:53 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=1717 Image credit: Jordan Munns

The wait is over! Acclaimed Australian electronic producer Golden Features makes his highly anticipated return with his rousing new single “Touch” featuring Rromarin

Golden Features has turned out to be an apt name for the artist born Tom Stell, a nod to the gold mask he wears while performing. “Touch” marks the first taste of new music from Stell’s Golden Features, after a literal golden run since bursting onto the scene in 2014.

Since his 2018 debut album SECT and the launch of 2020’s collaborative project BRONSON (with ODESZA), Stell felt creatively spent and needed time to recoup. Instead of opting for the traditional R&R approach, Stell emersed himself deep into clubbing mecca of the world, Berlin. There, he lost himself in the city’s renowned techno bunkers and hedonistic clubs, dancing with strangers, stripped of phones and returning to the apartment in the early hours to hunt for the tracks he’d heard the night before. Four nights a week spent raving only came to an end when COVID closed the clubs down. But Stell returned to Australia revitalised and most importantly, inspired.

“Touch” encapsulates everything Stell took away from his invigorating stint in Berlin. A track that’s both moody and light, layered with pulsating rhythm, hypnotic beats and the duelling deep and wispy vocals of Rromarin.

“Touch was born from that synth riff. I fought it for so long, feeling it was too happy and upbeat. After giving it some space I reharmonized everything under the riff and it instantly made me feel something. Claire (Rromarin) had actually recorded these vocals for another song, but the lyrics just felt right for Touch” says Stell on the new single. “To me it encapsulates that feeling after the rave… At the kick-on laying with your head in somebody’s lap, smoking a cigarette while they play with your hair.”

Now with two platinum and six gold ARIA certifications for his tracks, 275+ million global streams, an acclaimed and beloved debut album in 2018’s SECT (#1 ARIA Dance Albums Chart, #1 iTunes, Triple J’s Feature Album), selling out two shows in 4 hours at the Sydney Opera House, headline slots at major festivals both at home and abroad as well as forming the BRONSON project and releasing their self-titled album with stadium-conquering US electronic duo ODESZA under his belt, Golden Features has cemented himself as Australian electronic music royalty, returning now as an artist at the top of their game.

ABOUT GOLDEN FEATURES

Stell’s music career began in 2014 with his self-titled debut EP featuring the massive “Tell Me” with Nicole Millar. Shortly followed by his 2015 EP XXIV, featuring guests in the form of American rapper K.Flay and Australian singer Thelma Plum, who appeared on the sultry “No One”. Always building on his prior successes, in 2016 Stell released his biggest tune to date, “Wolfie”, featuring Julia Stone and showcasing a poppier, brighter sound. Shortly after Australian dance music heavyweights The Presets came knocking to collaborate on the Raka EP

Debut album SECT landed in 2018 to cement Stell’s status as a bona fide star, selling out shows across Australia, securing festival appearances everywhere from Coachella, Ultra to Falls Festival to Holy Ship!.

Two years later, locked down fans were treated to the sounds of their future rave dreams when Stell and ODESZA dropped BRONSON mid-pandemic. Their self-titled collab, borne out of a years-long friendship that started between Stell and ODESZA in Australia in 2014, is the best of both their worlds, infusing Odesza’s cinematic, expansive synth layers with Stell’s stormy, brooding low end. With over 2.5 billion streams across platforms, features from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED) and lau.ra (on “Heart Attack”)) and support from world-leading music publications and DJs, BRONSON was one of the biggest electronic records of the year and further evidence of the breadth of Stell’s talents.

Toolroom’s Summer 2022 has already kicked off with a string of absolute heaters. Lined up next, it’s Abode’s resident DJ and frontrunner GW Harrison who is back on the label with Feels Good. The latest Toolroom outing for the London-based DJ, and this time he’s enlisted the powerful voice of Laura Davie, the vocalist behind some of Toolroom’s most popular releases from Mark Knight’s – ‘If It’s Love’ to Illyus and Barrientos – ‘Disco Hearts’.

Back on the label once again after dropping last summer’s washed-out House banger ‘Out My Mind’, GW Harrison is stepping up the game for 2022. Leading onto ‘Feels Good’, a summertime Piano House belter featuring a staunch bass line and pumping groove that pushes that euphoric, hands in the air feeling to the max.
