German DJ, label owner, and artist manager Oliver Schories is set to release his latest remix of the soulful San Franciscan trio KARMACODA’s track ‘Deja Vu’, slated for release on February 28th via Sola Musa Music. With a career spanning over a decade, Schories has amassed 140 million Spotify streams and gained widespread recognition from Mixmag, Magnetic Magazine, Decoded Magazine, Deep House Amsterdam, FAZE Mag and many more. His catalog featuring albums like Exit (2013) and Blitzbahn (2018), showcases his signature melodic house sound and his influence as both an artist and label curator through SOSO and Pracht

The original version of ‘Deja Vu’ comes from KARMACODA’s critically acclaimed 2022 album, Lessons In Time. Composed of Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett (vocals/producer), and Eric Matsuno (bass/multi-instrumentalist), the trio blends electronica, trip-hop, R&B, and dream pop, drawing comparisons to Adele, Lana Del Rey, and Massive Attack. Their evocative sound has been featured in CLASH Magazine, Wonderland Mag, and Earmilk, with airplay on NPR Music and RTÉ 2XM, and their music has appeared in film and television scores.

Oliver Schories’ remix of ‘Deja Vu’ transforms the track into a melodic house journey, seamlessly blending hypnotic rhythms, ethereal synths and pulsating basslines while preserving the haunting allure of Jessica Ford’s vocals. The remix drops February 28th via Sola Musa Music, promising a captivating new interpretation of KARMACODA’s evocative sound.

Legendary luminaries 808 State remix ADRIANNA’s techno track ‘Wild Electric’ https://house-music.co/2024/05/24/legendary-luminaries-808-state-remix-adriannas-techno-track-wild-electric/ Fri, 24 May 2024 09:44:03 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=2024 British Tech House pioneers 808 State unveiled an acid house remix of ADRIANNA’s techno sizzler ‘Wild Electric’ via Temple House Music on May 31, 2024. Known for revolutionising UK acid house, 808 State has a rich history spanning three decades, influencing acts like Autechre and collaborating with icons like David Bowie, Björk, Quincy Jones and Brian Eno amongst others. ADRIANNA, a rising star in London’s Tech House scene, is gaining traction with her tough, vocal-infused beats, drawing comparisons to industry heavyweights Alan Fitzpatrick, Deborah de Luca, Nina Kraviz and Carl Cox.  She has received support from notable publications such as The Sun, Mixmag, and CLASH Magazine, to name a few.

ADRIANNA’s ‘Wild Electric’ soared to #5 on Beatport with its intense acid tech vibe, boasting pulsing rhythms, trippy synths, and a booming kick. 808 State’s remix expertly honours the original’s energy while adding their iconic 90s acid house touch, featuring analog synths and organic percussion for a lighter yet infectious rendition.

808 State revealed: “For ADRIANNA’s ‘Wild Electric’ remix I had dusted off my trusty Sequential Circuits Pro One Synth, it has some serious punch to it. The Roland R8 drum Machine was a signature 808 State flavour back in the early 90s especially using the ‘Ethnic Percussion’ card, I hadn’t used that in a while – there are plenty of old hardware synths chained up to make this an analogue rich juggernaut!”

Producer E39 and band KARMACODA announce official remix of ‘Time Flies’ https://house-music.co/2023/06/15/producer-e39-and-band-karmacoda-announce-official-remix-of-time-flies/ Thu, 15 Jun 2023 12:32:42 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=1908 Image credit: Bill Shupp

Electronica band KARMACODA will be releasing a new rework of their original track by the same name this Friday. Titled ‘Time Flies (E39 Spring Ahead Mix)’, the track was remixed by the New York producer Peter Tanico and has been attributed to his moniker, E39. Out soon via Sola Musa Music.

Pre-save ‘Time Flies (E39 Spring Ahead Mix)’

The remix follows another official remix that he crafted for the San Francisco-based band, a track named ‘Dare (E39 Mixshow)’, which adds to the band’s extensive remix catalogue. Their catalogue includes work by the duo Extrawelt and multi-instrumentalist Sailor & I among others.

The band’s lead singer shared her thoughts: “E39 has produced my favorite remixes for KARMACODA, so when he said ‘yes’ to remixing ‘Time Flies’ I told B, ‘we’ve got to jump at the chance!’ It is exactly what I hoped for. You will move, you’ll head bob, it’s a bop! So good.”

The remix is an old-school House reinterpretation of the original. The kick and snare set an easy-going groove, enhancing the reflective mood of the band’s vocals. Tropical guitars add a dream-like feeling, and a muffled, pitched-down vocal textures the beat, layering on an extra dimension.

The Ukraine sisters Anna and Sonya Kuprienko are charming vocalists that carry any track with conviction in their delivery. The SOFI TUKKER remix once again proves that the Bloom Twins have the adaptable vocals for the ever-changing electronic music landscape. We wait in anticipation to see what this versatile duo have in the works moving forward, but until then we chatted with the sisters Bloom Twins and discovered that they are comfortable in their skin.

Stream/ download: ‘High On Beat’ (SOFI TUKKER remix)

Tell us about your earliest musical memory?

Before we could speak, we started to sing. We would copy every sound we could hear. Our parents felt a strong need to put us in the music school because it was the first language we picked up.

At what point in your life did you have that moment where you said to yourself “This is it. This is the type of music I want to create?”

I’m not sure which genre I want to create,  I just know which emotion I want to deliver. Looking at the blank canvas I don’t really know where it’s gonna take me, I just fill it in step by step. The songwriting process is a mystery – the beauty of the unknown.

Please list some of the most influential albums on your creative outlook and output:

The Velvet Underground & Nico.

This year has seen you collaborate on several dance singles with globally renowned music producers. What are the highlights of these experiences so far?

It’s crazy to think that it all came to life with the help of Instagram. In a new digital era, you’re only one DM away from connecting with literally anyone. We messaged Benny Benassi, Jan Blomqvist, Sofi Tukker and they all responded that they like our music. It feels so great to have such feedback from such iconic electronic artists!

What inspires you outside of music? What do you turn to when the creative well runs a little low?

We love fashion and how it comes together with music. Seem like one can’t exist without the other. Like my twin and I.

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?

Studio work and performing are just such different sides to music. One could turn you into an introvert and another into an extrovert. It makes it hard to compare the two. I must admit coming out of the lockdown makes me excited about performing but equally terrified.

As a music artist, it becomes apparent that there is a huge difference between the art and the business. Is there anything about the music scene that you would personally change?

We should support the differences rather than fitting into the existing genres. We were also asked to fix our accents as otherwise wouldn’t be favored and played on the radio stations. We don’t think it is necessary, we should all be proud of our upbringing and where we are from.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar? Who shouldn’t the world sleep on?

Absolutely in love with Jelani Blackman’s work! He recently released a track with the Gorillaz and it’s doing really well!

Can you describe the feeling of having the original track reworked by SOFI TUKKER?

We are thrilled! We absolutely love the new direction SOFI TUKKER chose for this track. We believe all good songs can be redone in many different ways and it’s amazing when the same song can evoke different feelings.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

At the moment we’re concentrating on writing as many tracks as possible. We have tons of features that we worked on during the lockdown, cannot wait to share them with you all.

One last thought to leave your fans with?

Don’t ever give up even when no one believes in you. Write as many tracks as possible, experiment with different genres. This way you will come up with something new! Impress yourself and you will impress others. Do it because you love doing it and not because of other reasons.

Legendary DJ and producer Carl Cox has paid homage to Geraldine Hunt’s cult classic ‘Can’t Fake The Feeling’ with his interpretation of the original, out now on iconic Canadian imprint Unidisc.

A celebration of the track’s musicianship and legacy, Carl Cox delivers a pitched-up, refined rework of Can’t Fake The Feeling’ that further accentuates the infectious dancefloor energy of the original. Carl Cox’s delicate and subtle remix is an ode to the original which was released in 1980 and topped the US Dance chart for seven weeks, also peaking at #58 on the US Soul chart and #44 on the UK Singles chart

To celebrate 40 years since the label was inaugurated, Unidisc is utilising its extensive and plentiful supply of dance music classics to create an exceptional collection of remixes from an all-star cast of today’s dance music talent. It was kick-started with the Claptone remix of the Trans-X classic ‘Living On Video’, Jacques Greene’s take on the Lime favouriteBabe We’re Gonna Love Tonight’ and Alan Fitzpatrick’s club-ready rework of ‘Let The Music Play’ by Shannon, with Purple Disco Machine among the artists still to contribute to this exciting anniversary project.

Over its four-decade-long lifetime, Unidisc has constantly evolved and shifted with the times –  formed in 1977 it quickly became one of Canada’s largest independent record labels, building a reputation around its Italo disco and Hi-NRG output from artists such as Lime, France Joli, and Geraldine Hunt. Unidisc went on to spawn a national movement that was a precursor to the arrival of global stars like Richie Hawtin, John Aquaviva and Mistress Barbara.

A musical ambassador and a veteran of acid house, a champion of techno, a dance music pioneer, label owner, king of Ibiza – you name it, Carl Cox has been there and done it, never losing sight of his passions – playing music, breaking tunes and celebrating life. Perhaps the most celebrated electronic artist on the planet, he has received thirteen DJ Awards, three International Dance Music Awards, three DJ Mag Awards and one NME Award – while showing no signs of slowing down.

The fourth show-stopping remix release in a row, Unidisc acquire the service of a bonafide dance music legend with typically dazzling results.

Bob Moses have released a brand-new remix from Charlotte de Witte of their single “Desire” with ZHU, extending the song to a seven-minute plus deep techno take. Her reimagined version, out now on Domino, follows the release of Falling into Focus – Live 2020, Bob Moses’ first concert film and live album. Accompanying the remix is a video animated by Airplan Studio and directed by Owen Brown, which completes the arc of the original interactive “Desire” music video by focusing on the blue character’s storyline of pleasure; the video for Solomun’s “Desire” remix focused on the red character’s storyline of heartbreak.

Charlotte de Witte is a Belgian born DJ whose surge on the scene has resulted in her being one of the most sought-after names in electronic music today. Highlight performances across the continents, Mixmag & DJ Mag covers, high-ranking positions in the charts & lists, and one of the strongest social media profiles in music today, confirm her status as nouveau techno royalty. Her accolades, including the number one spot in DJ Mag Alternative Top 100 DJs of 2020, Best Techno at the DJ Awards in 2019, and a high-profile residency at BBC Radio 1, honor validations of de Witte’s hard work. Through her boutique label KNTXT—which stands for stands for purity, strength & progression within a vibrant and ever evolving techno scene—Charlotte de Witte organizes events, releases music and curates radio shows.

The release of de Witte’s remix bookends an unprecedented year for Bob Moses as well as the entire music industry due to the coronavirus. Unable to tour, Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance took to the digital space with their weekly online ‘BobCast’ series, now streaming exclusively through Twitch.  They released their third studio project Desire, a six-track love tale for the digital age: all about the positives and pitfalls of humanity’s driving wants, especially in these technology-driven times, bringing together a thematic style of songwriting with the flow of modern electronic music.

Falling into Focus – Live 2020, a concert film also directed by Owen Brown, and live album of the same name, followed. An hour-long set performed from an abandoned radio tower in Topanga, California, it comprised 13 tracks, highlighting material from Desire, their previous albums Battle Lines and Days Gone By, plus an exclusive live band version of “Desire”.  Starting atop the skyscraping structure as night took over, Bob Moses slowly worked their way down the tower performing multiple sets in a variety of configurations, both as a band and in their original two-piece setup.

Well-known remixer and producer LCAW has taken Ilja Alexander’s pop-laden ‘Someday’ single for a spin. The remix, released today via  Green Monk Records calls to mind industry greats such as Ben Böhmer, Rüfüs Du Sol and Jan Blomqvist.

Stream/ download: Someday (LCAW Remix)

“Working on this remix for Someday was a lot of fun because I used only analog synths that I recently acquired. Very happy I got a chance to put my spin on this song, hope someday soon I get to play it in a club and see people dance to it.”LCAW tells us about his experience of working on the remix.

The original single’s noteworthy vocals have been kept intact, while a darker atmosphere is introduced. Think of a lover, corrupting their gentle significant other, while enticing them into a world of rhythmic dance floors and underground nightclubs.
