A funky fresh house jam, ‘The Reason’ combines steady kick drums with chunky, low-end bass and Kelli-Leigh’s silky vocals. It follows on from Halogen’s viral single ‘U Got That’, a TikTok sensation that amassed over 90K videos garnering millions of likes. It also clocked in over 850K Shazams, 37 Million streams on Spotify, charted on Apple Music’s dance chart in 36 countries and accumulated over 200 Million YouTube views on various videos featuring the song.

Josh Taylor and Alex Dunsker first met through mutual friends at Georgia Tech in 2013. A mutual love for house music led to them collaboratively producing music all the way through college, and the duo would go on to release music on the likes of Spinnin’ Records, Polydor Records and Universal Music Group.

Kelli-Leigh is best known for being the uncredited vocalist in the UK number one single ‘I Got U’ by Duke Dumont and ‘I Wanna Feel’ by Second City. She also featured on James Hype’s single ‘More Than Friends’ which hit top ten in the UK; as well as performing backing vocals for the likes of Adele and Leona Lewis among others.

The next chapter in the story, ‘The Reason’ sees Halogen continue their journey into floor-filling house music.

Avant-garde artist, Rome in Reverse, collaborates with established producer, Sun Glitters https://house-music.co/2020/07/28/avant-garde-artist-rome-in-reverse-collaborates-with-established-producer-sun-glitters/ Tue, 28 Jul 2020 10:04:26 +0000 http://housemusic.ground.fm/?p=715 Image: Valeria Franci edit by Victor Ferreira

Rome In Reverse(Antonella Pacifico) has collaborated with music producer and co-founder FAR  (Future Archive Recordings), Sun Glitters on new song ‘Coralline’. Four Four adds their opinion on the new single, “Rome In Reverse and Sun Glitters showcase a cohesive single, despite their different artistic styles and range. This advantage gives them the room to shine in their own light on this track.”

Rome In Reverse adds her thoughts,  “It’s natural for me to immerse myself in a landscape while I produce music. ‘Coralline’ is the perfect way to explain how I feel at that moment, and what I see in my conscience. Who better than Sun Glitters, with his ambient sounds accompanied with downtempo beats, to take me to that mental place. A dive in a deep blue ocean, breathless while hearing the call of the mermaids (the choir in the track) and surrounded by beautiful coral.”

Pacifico delivers her luscious and dreamlike sound that you would expect from a Rome In Reverse single, and Sun Glitters adds his flair with his ambient structure.

Dance music producers BELMONT BOYS share debut song https://house-music.co/2020/07/01/dance-music-producers-belmont-boys-share-debut-song/ Wed, 01 Jul 2020 09:34:00 +0000 https://house-music.co/2020/07/01/dance-music-producers-belmont-boys-share-debut-song/ Up-and-coming duo BELMONT BOYS have released their debut single ‘PJ’ on dance music giant Insomniac’s own record label, In / Rotation. The track comes as a part of Insomniac’s latest compilation, Rotate Vol. 3.

A moody deep house cut, ‘PJ’ weaves sparse vocal samples, downbeat piano chords and high-pitched flute sounds around its driving bassline – harnessing a minimalistic yet highly danceable vibe.

Two Eastern European (Slovakian & Polish) Producer / DJs who grew up in Chicago together, BELMONT BOYS have blossoming careers under their solo monikers Plumpy and Très Mortimer.

BELMONT BOYS commented: “This track started with the piano loop which was composed on an Ableton Push. We made it after Très opened for the Chainsmokers last summer and absolutely had to hit the studio after. PJ stands for Private Jet. We always see big DJs flying private to shows and posting photos like they’ve been producing in the air. The dreamy piano and driving bass make this a dance worthy addition to any house playlist, or USB if you’re a DJ.”

The first track the BELMONT BOYS released together (as Plumpy and Très Mortimer) was ‘BAMBU’, which Diplo premiered at Burning Man, was released via Mad Decent, and has received 500k+ plays across streaming platforms. The boys prefer to keep things light and fun and bring the party wherever they go. They’re both influenced by Eastern European sounds, as well as those they heard growing up in the birthplace of house, Chicago.

As a solo artist, Plumpy has remixed for X Ambassadors, Grayson Chance, TyDi, Riff Raff, and The Arkells, as well as released on a number of labels including Young Money, Interscope, Armada, Trap Nation, and more. Now based in Los Angeles, he’s a regular DJ at events such as Space Yacht.

Straddling between dance music pr and hip hop, Très Mortimer has opened for The Chainsmokers, Audien, Nitti Gritti, Lil Yachty, YBN Cordae and more. He’s played at a number of well known venues throughout the states including LA’s Exchange, Chicago’s Concord Music Hall, and Seattle’s Nuemos.

‘PJ’ marks the next chapter of what promises to be a fruitful collaboration between two close friends and artists.

House music producer Blinkie returns with double-single https://house-music.co/2020/06/23/house-music-producer-blinkie-returns-with-double-single/ Tue, 23 Jun 2020 15:14:00 +0000 https://house-music.co/2020/06/23/house-music-producer-blinkie-returns-with-double-single/ London-based producer Blinkie returns with double-single ‘What You Want’/ ‘What You Do’, out today via his imprint PXL Records.

Announcing itself with a driving kick drum, ‘What You Want’ is a rousing vocal house track with an unmistakably Balearic feel, building in intensity across its four minutes. On a similar tip, ‘What You Do’ is powered by a deep and pumping bassline, drawing inspiration from the 303-driven world of Chicago acid house.

Speaking on the tracks, Blinkie explains, “The inspiration behind me making “What You Do” & “What You Want” was the 90s techno and house scene. I wanted to make something different from my usual sound – something a bit more moody, gritty and energetic more for underground clubs.”

The release follows on from a slew of successful singles: ‘Must Be Love’, ‘Don’t Give Up (On Love)’ which amassed 30 million streams and was playlisted on BBC Radio 1, and thirdly ‘Little Love’ which featured in The Guardian’s list of ‘Songs of the Summer’ for 2019. Along the way, Blinkie has earned radio support from Nick Grimshaw, Scott Mills, MistaJam, Reece Parkinson, Jordan North and DJ Target across BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra.

Outside of his own tracks, Blinkie is also established as an in-demand producer and remixer. His production credits include tracks with Lana Del Rey, Giggs and Wretch 32, and he’s also remixed the likes of Anne-Marie, Major Lazer and Sigala. Stretching beyond music, Blinkie runs the men’s clothing line Profit X Loss, which has been sported by big names on both sides of the Atlantic: 50 Cent, Yo Gotti, Young MA, Ghetts and Bugzy Malone.

Marking his first new music of 2020, ‘What You Want’ / ‘What You Do’ sees Blinkie drop two house bombs just in time for summer.

Parisian percussionists, Medium Douce release live video of ‘Samovar’ performance https://house-music.co/2019/08/07/parisian-percussionist-musicians-medium-douce-release-live-video-of-samovar-performance/ Wed, 07 Aug 2019 14:50:00 +0000 http://housemusic.ground.fm/2019/08/07/parisian-percussionist-musicians-medium-douce-release-live-video-of-samovar-performance/ Electronic-percussion act Medium Douce shared ‘Samovar’, the first cut off their new EP “ATTACCA” out on 19th July via Uppwind Records. Along with the track, they have treated their listeners by releasing a live video of them performing it.

Watching these talented four percussionists work is a surreal experience, as the viewer is drawn in with amazement for the skills presented. Keeping the underlying beat, the musicians bring forward their signature and defining sound of marimbas and steel drums.

The Paris-based band Maxime Buffel members (synths, DAW), Manon Duchemann (Marimba), Justine Feuillette (Vibraphone) and Johann Feuerstoss (Drums) all began studying music as children before going on to meet at the Conservatory of Versailles, where they were involved in classical and jazz studies.

The Hydra Announces Bank Holiday Line Up for 23, 24, 25 August, 2019 https://house-music.co/2019/06/12/the-hydra-announces-bank-holdiday-line-up-23-24-25-august/ Wed, 12 Jun 2019 08:33:00 +0000 http://housemusic.ground.fm/2019/06/12/the-hydra-announces-bank-holdiday-line-up-23-24-25-august/ In 2012 The Hydra series was launched, an idea that was was born after Ajay and Dolan first met and collaborated together on an event on the August Bank Holiday weekend in 2011. Having both grown up through early 90s rave, and cut their industry teeth across roles at renowned independent nightclubs and major record labels, they started on this new project together to cover the full spectrum of electronic music.

The first series ran from the August Bank Holiday Weekend, though to NYE, and featured a diversity of acts from James Murphy and James Blake, through to Marcel Dettmann and Kode9. After a brief hiatus from this flagship weekend, we’re very excited to reveal our return.

As we are also making a return to our new home, we wanted to find a few fresh ways to present things, including our first event in the incredible Printworks Live Hall, as well as our first later (2 am) finish there. Over three days we have curated a weekend of events that represent some of our key musical facets, so a beautifully mixed bag, but an opportunity to showcase some of the artists we truly love.

Honouring London’s diversity through the universal language of music, we present a collection of exceptional talent for the capital’s electronic music community. A unique opportunity to enjoy this one-off collection of venerated talents, under a single roof, over a long Summer weekend. Unmissable.

Early Bird and Standard Tickets for all three events will be available on Resident Advisor at 11 am this Thursday (13th June)

23RD AUGUST / 24TH AUGUST / 25TH AUGUST

23RD AUGUST 2019 – BUY TICKETS

One of our favourite events of the second Hydra series in 2013, was the debut label showcase for Erased Tapes, headlined by an immensely talented and-soon-to-be-massive German composer by the name of Nils Frahm. For us it certainly felt like a moment, where the worlds of Classical and Electronic music began to collide and open up a portal for all manner of amazing artists and records to emerge. The intimate confines of Village Underground have long ceased to contain his popularity, but our anticipation around Nils playing The Hydra is vast.

In support, something rather special. Ambient music is as important to us any as any of the other myriad music we cherish and support. So we feel particularly honoured to have been able to commission a one-off 25th-anniversary performance of ’76:14′ by Global Communication. A mainstay of Top Tens dedicated to this music, it is a foundational record and we couldn’t be happier about rounding off this unique bill with Mr Tom Middleton (one half of Global Communication, alongside Mark Pritchard) having agreed to put together a full, bespoke performance of this seminal record.

24TH AUGUST 2019 – BUY TICKETS

The Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend is one of the biggest dates of the year in our world. So for this return, it felt only right to enlist one of our scene leaders. Jeff Mills’ debut at Printworks was a Techno masterclass, so expect more of the same. He is joined this time by his compatriot from the Motor City, Juan Atkins, in a rare Model 500 performance and venue debut. Electro deity Helena Hauff also hits the Press Halls, with Ben Klock side-stepping his Photon residency at the space to appear here too. Another venue (and UK) debut sees Detroit’s Terrence Dixon make a much-awaited Live debut on these shores whilst LA’s Mor Elian gets us started.

Dark Room welcomes Workshop affiliates Willow and Move D. David Moufang has been with us from the beginning and continues to represent so much that we love about electronic music. We’re also pleased to have Hydra debutant Damiano Von Erckert bring his Hip Hop-channeling House sensibility to the second space. NTS’ DEBONAIR gets us started here.

Day into late night on this one, as we roadtest a 2 am finish for the first time…

25TH AUGUST 2019 – BUY TICKETS

Sundays may well be the choice day of any bank holiday. Offering the opportunity to get stuck in afresh, to pick up where you previously left off or perhaps best of all, to unexpectedly find yourself in the dance, completely unplanned and ready for anything. And for any of those potential outcomes, we have perhaps the most apposite line-up of the weekend, reserved for the day of rest.

We welcome House music leviathan, Larry Heard for what will be his only London show of 2019. A man responsible for much of what we do, in so many ways. Accompanying Mr Fingers on our Sunday session is a triumvirate of second-generation superstars straight outta the D: Carl Craig, Moodymann and Theo Parrish. If you ever wanted an insight into what has inspired us on this journey, the craft and artistry of these titans will give you an idea. All three were represented across the Movement weekend in Detroit recently; the role that this special city has played cannot be underestimated, so it was a joy to behold them all on home turf… And from East Coast to West, this party also features a Live excursion from Stones Throw’s low-slung songsmith DaM FunK.

In the second space on this one, Belgian’s intrepid wax hunter Lefto teams up with Brownswood alumnus Joe Armon-Jones for a trip into the unknown, and there is more Live action from L.A. with Afrofuturist Ras G, plus support from Ash Lauryn and Sofie.

Dimitri Vegas to Star in Rambo V https://house-music.co/2019/05/14/dimitri-vegas-to-star-in-rambo-v/ Tue, 14 May 2019 14:24:00 +0000 http://housemusic.ground.fm/2019/05/14/dimitri-vegas-to-star-in-rambo-v/ We can look forward to one half of the Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike in the final Rambo film set to hit theatres 20 September 2019. The Belgian producer Dimitri Thivaios found himself cast for the Stallone classic though it’s unclear as of yet exactly what role the man will take on.

Thivaios isn’t exactly new to film, as he has in the past featured in Disney‘s Big Hero Six and lent his voice to Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Dutch version of the Academy Award-winning, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

To whet your appetite, the synopsis of Rambo V: Last Blood is as follows:
Rambo teams up with a journalist to track down and rescue a group of local girls that have been kidnapped by a Mexican sex trafficking ring, after trying to settle down to a quiet peaceful life stateside at the family ranch in Arizona after spending decades abroad.”
