The band will be releasing a trilogy of cinematic videos which follow the timeless tale of a lost wanderer facing terrifying odds. The first of the trilogy of the videos was for their Wintergreen single and introduced us to the mystifying characters. The video ends with the protagonist being lifted towards the sky: whether to or from salvation remains to be seen.

Stream / Download: Mindibu LP

Unexpectedly, the video for ‘In Mindibu’ opens deep beneath the surface of the earth in a seemingly endless cavern of tunnels leading to the unknown. The inexplicably blindfolded protagonist must find his way through the writhing bodies and into the light. Stavroz have managed to create their own little fictional world with the creation of these two videos. Consider us on the hook and counting down the hours until the release of their last one that completes the cycle.

The band tell us about the trilogy: “Our trilogy of videos are based on the ancient legend of Orpheus and Eurydice which has been brought to Mindibu, the world of Stavroz. As Orpheus sets off on his journey to save his love from the underworld, he is joined by Mindibu’s creatures. Uncertain of what lies ahead, he bravely soldiers on, guided by a sinister yet sensual and melancholic soundtrack.”

Electronic duo Boyoca share intoxicating song ’Change’ https://house-music.co/2022/05/12/electronic-duo-boyoca-share-intoxicating-song-change/ Thu, 12 May 2022 12:34:38 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=1687 Eclectic UK outfit Boyoca share the percussive tribal tendencies of ‘Change’, releasing via EMK; the electronic music platform launched by Kartel Music Group, heralding the start of an incredibly exciting year for the duo. Stream ‘Change’ here.

The first in a selection of pristine forthcoming organic/electronic cuts from the Birmingham-bred, London-based outfit, ‘Change’ builds on the rising momentum cemented by last year’s ‘He’s A Fool’ EP, which saw a remix from Joe Turner and a scintillating guest mix for Magnetic Magazine, plus press and radio support from Pete Tong (BBC Radio 1), Kiss Fresh, Jaguar (BBC Introducing) FAZEmag, Stereofox and Apple Music.

Recruiting the gorgeous vocals of Jamaican-born singer/songwriter Janel Antoneshia here, you’re immediately enveloped by deep, sunlit chords and groovy downtempo percussion, gleefully underpinned by the luscious beginnings of Antoneshia’s silky smooth flows. Whether poolside, beachside or clubside, your tastes are fully catered for. Each element is effortlessly diverse and fleeting, gradually melting into a breathtaking breakdown that teases something more just over the horizon.

As all aspects of Boyoca’s cracking production begin to build, the party kicks back in, but with more energy this time. System-focused and backed up by stellar sample manipulation, ‘Change’ transforms from a chilled percussive trip into a driven house heater before your very ears; a hand-moulded summer anthem that fits just as well in the clubs as it does the festivals.

Speaking on the track, Boyoca note: “The concept for Change came about a while before the music. We wanted something that threw the rules out of the window for the genre. Starting at 90bpm and modulating to 123bpm midway through probably isn’t the wisest move (in some respects) for a dance track, but it’s definitely a statement.” The promising pairing takes these risks, and they’re all the better for it.

This new single builds on the success of last year’s ‘He’s A Fool’ EP, plus a remix for the globetrotting Morcheeba, and it’s set to be another massive year for Boyoca, the moniker of multi-instrumentalists Tim Boyce and Lewis Carr.

Just over the horizon is an appearance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend on May 27th, which will see them appear alongside the likes of Disclosure, Eats Everything, Patrick Topping, Pete Tong, Franky Wah, Prospa, Nia Archives and many more, as Boyoca continue to excel with their encompassing “green house” sound, crafting transformative electronic music with a tangible organic nature, combining real world sounds with electronic beats and grooves.

With the launch of ‘Change’, Boyoca signal a real statement of intent for 2022, evidenced by their exciting upcoming run of club and festival shows, and their prior widespread club, radio, press and tastemaker support. As one of the scene’s most promising duos, keep your ears firmly to the ground for everything Boyoca.

Electronic producer Manu Dia releases song via TOKiMONSTA record label https://house-music.co/2022/02/24/electronic-producer-manu-dia-releases-song-via-tokimonsta-record-label/ Thu, 24 Feb 2022 13:16:32 +0000 https://house-music.co/?p=1638 Manu Dia releases “Promise,” an atmospheric upbeat track exploring the meditative side of electronica. The Spaniard brings a variety of elements into his compositions, utilizing textural samples and soundscapes to create his own brand of beautifully refreshing music. “Promise” was released on acclaimed producer TOKiMONSTA’s label, Young Art Records.

The song comes off of Manu Dia’s highly anticipated debut full-length project. Written while travelling by train through Romania, “Promise” is Manu Dia’s favorite song he’s ever made. The song came to life as his girlfriend slept on his shoulder, inspiring him to capture this innocent moment. “Promise,” in the artist’s words, is “essentially about the feeling of being in love. I think its the most emotional song in the album without having lyrics or a single word spoken—which I think is the beauty of this project and electronic music as a whole. After having had a pretty lonely and weird year, I had this realization of how grateful I was to have someone like my girlfriend that is in this journey with me. I am immensely grateful for my girlfriend and the support she gives me. This song is for her.

Inspired by his unique upbringing between a former ancient kingdom in Spain and the buzzing hub that is Brussels, Manu Dia makes music that tells a story through sounds. He describes his music as a blend of dancefloor-inspired euphoria and ephemeral feelings that draw inspiration from life itself. Prior to the release of “Promise,” Manu Dia revealed “Tuesday Morning,” his first single off of his upcoming LP. While Manu is still in the early stages of his career, it is evident that his music stands in a lane of its own.

Tell us about your earliest musical memory?

Kanye West’s debut studio album College Dropout was all I was listening to on a family holiday to America when I was just 9. The tracks on that including ‘Spaceships’, ‘All Falls Down’ and ‘Jesus Walks’ would introduce me to a realm of music and sampling that I’d never thought of before. I didn’t truly appreciate the genius that is Kanye West until I was much older, but listening back gives me fond memories of my dad blasting that album in the car.

At what point in your life did you have that moment where you said to yourself “This is it. This is the type of music I want to create?”

Seeing Justice play at the Reading festival in 2012 solidified that I’d want to be a part of the dance music space in one way or another. It sparked a fascination with sounds, synths and melodies that I’d never appreciated before. Fast-forwarding to today and we take inspiration from the likes of Jon Hopkins, Bicep and Rival Consoles, creating beautiful and emotional dance music whilst maintaining a heavy driving beat is something we strive for in our music.

Please list some of the most influential albums on your creative outlook and output:

Tyler The Creator – Flowerboy

BICEP – BICEP

Rival Consoles – Persona

Chemical Brothers – Push The Button

Maribou State – Portraits

Nero – Welcome Reality

What key pieces of gear/software are you using to define your sound?

We’ve recently picked up a Behringer Odyssey that gives such an amazingly rich bass sound, we’re using it for a lot of our newer tracks, a staple for us as well as the Novation Peak as well as the Roland TR-8S for on the fly drums and samples.

What inspires you outside of music? What do you turn to when the creative well runs a little low?

I think inspiration can strike in all forms, art, design, culture. We like to travel quite a lot and have been all over the world individually, drawing upon cultures and lifestyles from across the globe and introducing that into our music.

I get a lot of inspiration in fashion and design.

What is your opinion on the ever spreading sub-genre vine? Are there too many? Do you think there’ s perhaps a sub-genre that doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

Genres are very misleading and ambiguous, good music is good music and I feel pigeon-holing tracks into certain preconceived genres is alien to me. Dark disco is something that I stumbled upon in Vietnam that needs more attention, amazing sounds.

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?

Normally I would say music creation, but given the fact that we’ve been locked up for so long, I’ll need to say performing. We’ve been craving a proper crowd for so long now!

As a music artist, it becomes apparent that there is a huge difference between the art and the business. Is there anything about the music scene that you would personally change?

100% that we should be giving equal opportunities to everyone wanting to get involved in music, it’s so easy to produce electronic music these days and everyone should have a chance to learn and be involved if that’s what they want to do.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar? Who shouldn’t the world sleep on?

DELIRYA… amazing euphoric breaks and huge tracks from start to finish.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

We have a busy summer ahead of us including some international gigs. Closer to now we have Into The Woods festival and Detonate, as well as club nights for Good Life UK supporting heavy hitters like DJ Boring, Laurence Guy and O’Flynn.

One last thought to leave your fans with?

Stay saucy and keep supporting, we love you all x.

DJ Gui Boratto returns with yet another sterling remix (Douran – ‘Inertia’) https://house-music.co/2021/04/23/dj-gui-boratto-returns-with-yet-another-sterling-remix-douran-inertia/ Fri, 23 Apr 2021 08:03:22 +0000 http://housemusic.ground.fm/?p=1415   Image credit: Gabriel Ferrante

Let’s slip into the world of old school electro beats and shimmering remixes as Gui Boratto takes on Douran’s latest single, ‘Inertia’. A well-known name in the underground Brazilian music scene, Gui Boratto has been enjoying exploring the world of remixes, having recently released a remix for RITA LEE’s ‘Mutante’ which features Roberto de Carvalho. However, it’s his original work such as ‘Paradise Circus’ and ‘Beautiful Life ft. Luciana Villanova’ that still remain strong in fans hearts.

Stream/Download: ‘Inertia (Gui Boratto Remix)’

Douran has also been embarking on a journey of remixes, as the title track for his upcoming EP Avalanche received a remix from the notorious Joachim Pastor. The upcoming EP will feature several other remixes, accompanied by the original version of the tracks and will be available to the public in Spring 2021. The EP will feature a little something for everyone, with cinematic orchestral elements meeting deep house beats, and we hear rumours about a few wave aspects to be included as well.

Gui Boratto tells us why he chose to take on the remix: “I embraced Douran’s music as soon as I identified the challenge of printing my musical signature while respecting the pillars of the original composition –  much more than just remixing. ‘Inertia is such a great song”.
